Will the skin on my underarms darken?Updated 10 months ago
We don't have many people report it to us, but it can happen.
We believe the issue is caused by the fact that natural deodorants create an alkaline environment under your armpit, and the alkalinity causes discolouration.
This seems to be more pronounced when using formulas that contain bicarb soda, as the formula is more alkaline than our non-bicarb formulas.
Woohoo deodorants aren’t as alkaline as many on the market, as we adjust the pH to make it more skin-friendly. We also use a combination of 4 different deodorising ingredients (not just bicarb), so we can use less bicarb but still work amazingly well.
That said, our deodorant is still alkaline overall, which means there’s still a chance of darkening with Woohoo, and this will depend on your body chemistry.
If you are concerned about this, you could try a magnesium-based (bicarb free) deodorant like Mellow or Tango - it will still have an alkaline pH but we haven’t heard of these darkening the armpits.
If you would like some tips about how to remove any discolouration that you've experienced, please let us know. For example, you may benefit from applying products that are slightly acidic.
