What's the best routine for blackhead-prone skin?Updated a month ago

A steady routine does more here than any single product, and the part doing most of the work is gentle, regular exfoliation.

The exfoliating step

This Is Me Enzyme Exfoliator, once or twice a week, is the one we'd reach for. It uses fruit enzymes rather than grit, so it lifts away dead skin and buildup without scrubbing.

Pig-In-Mud Mineral Mask, once a week, is better at drawing out congestion. It's a mix-it-yourself Australian clay mask, and clay is drying by nature, so go easy to begin with.

Daily, around it

  1. Cleanse - Cloud 9 Deep Cleansing Balm, lifted off with a warm, damp Konjac Sponge. Oil dissolves oil, so a balm gets into oily buildup more deeply than a gel does, and the sponge is gentle daily exfoliation in itself. If you'd rather a gel, You've Got This Charcoal Cleansing Gel suits oily and combination skin.
  2. Moisturise - Perfectly Happy Light Vitamin C Cream, or Make My Day Bio-Retinol Gel Cream if your skin runs oilier and you'd rather a gel.

Go gently with all of it, and give a new routine a few weeks before you judge it. Add one thing at a time so you can tell what your skin is responding to.

If your skin is dry as well as congested, our routine for dry, congested skin is the better place to start.

And if you'd like a plan built around your own skin, our free Email Skin Consult is there for exactly that.
