What is Cetearyl Alcohol?Updated a month ago
Cetearyl Alcohol is a plant-derived fatty alcohol. It thickens and stabilises a formula and works as a conditioning emollient, which is what gives a cream its texture and a deodorant stick its glide.
It's not the kind of alcohol that dries skin out - those are solvent alcohols like ethanol and alcohol denat, and we don't formulate with them.
We use Cetearyl Alcohol in all of our deodorant sticks (not the pastes), and in Over the Moon, Sweet Dreams, All Things Nice, Bestie and the Respect My Roots conditioner.
The other alcohol you might spot on one of our lists is Benzyl Alcohol. It's in the You've Got This Charcoal Cleansing Gel and Serenity Hyaluronic Body Serum. It's part of the preservative system that helps keep a water-based formula safe once it's been opened.
